Studioing: Historical Obsessions, Magic and Light

An invitation from the Artistic Cohort 2024-26.

Join the Artistic Cohort to play with the choreographic through dancing, thinking, dreaming, witnessing and studying together.

Across these sessions the Artistic Cohort are opening some of the individual and collective questions they've been busy with across the last two years of Rose Choreographic School:

What can we do in a studio?

How can our practices pollute each other?

How do we think and learn through difference?

How do we sustain being in relation to one another?

We have no answers, the studios are open: Come speculate with us.

Event Name: Historical Obsessions, Magic and Light

Event Date: Thursday 29th 2026

Event Time: 6:30-9:30pm

Event Location: Sadler's Wells East, Stratford

This session is facilitated by Bibi Doria and Stina Nyberg

In their first attempt to co-inhabit each other's artistic practices, Bibi Dória and Stina Nyberg share an open-ended exploration of obsessions, history, and the spaces where light and darkness meet.

Within the session, Bibi and Stina will share two different performance situations. Stina Nyberg will present The woman who lit the world – a storytelling which traces the magic of electricity, the life of Nikola Tesla, and an artist becoming an artistic genius. Bibi Dória presents Helena, a lecture-performance exploring the themes of cinema, archive, memory, and an obsession with a figure from the Brazilian Marginal Cinema movement: the anti-muse Helena Ignez.

Other notes:

For the first performance, Stina Nyberg moves close to and in between members of the audience.
